When does the weekly limit reset?
Normally both refill once a week. After a reset they differ: on Codex, the next weekly reset is 7 days after your first message following the reset, so send one right away; on Claude, the weekly reset time stays fixed.

Without a reset, the weekly allowance refills once a week; Settings → Usage and /status in the CLI show when. After a reset (a banked, automatic or purchased one), the new week starts with your first message in Work or Codex, and the next weekly reset is 7 days after that message—not 7 days after payment or after the reset itself. So send a message soon after a reset: wait a day and the next reset comes a day later. Cloud and local usage share the same weekly allowance.

You receive the full allowance each cycle. The day and time are fixed to your account and do not move with your usage, your billing date or an announced reset; an announced reset is an extra clear on top of that schedule. The weekly limit covers all models. On top of it, some plans meter Opus (and Sonnet) separately, and Fable models can take up to half of the weekly limit. Settings › Usage and /usage show the next reset.

- Burn the 5-hour bar before it resets so weekly is not “wasted”
Meters are separate. Unused 5-hour allowance does not subtract from weekly. Waiting for 5-hour to refill does not forfeit weekly; rushing only spends more of both.
In practice
- Codex: send a message right after a reset. The next weekly reset is 7 days from that message; waiting only pushes it later.
- Claude: a weekly reset can be days away; the session limit resets long before it.
